For parents and teachers
The Astor Kids kindergarten year
Astor Kids is the child-friendly side of the Astor Academy kindergarten curriculum: a full year of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Music, and Physical Education and Health. Every subject is aligned to the New York State learning standards and built on the NYC Public Schools 2026-27 calendar (Sept 10, 2026 – June 28, 2027), 36 teaching weeks.
The documents below are the full curriculum text: week-by-week plans, standards word for word, coverage maps, sample days, assessments and sources. Items Astor could not confirm, and parts Astor wrote itself, are marked inside them (see Status and open items and Fact-check log).

- Science: NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards, all 14 kindergarten performance expectations including K-2 engineering design.
- Social Studies: NYS K-8 Social Studies Framework, Grade K: Self and Others (K.1-K.9 and the K Social Studies Practices).
- Arts: NYS Learning Standards for the Arts (2017), Visual Arts and General Music kindergarten standards.

Please note
What Astor could not confirm, and what Astor chose itself. This is a draft, not an official document.
- NYC Reads requires Acadience Reading three times a year; the exact NYC testing windows for 2026-27 were not found, so the suggested weeks in the English plan are Astor's estimates. Use your school's windows.
- No citywide kindergarten math screener was found in the NYC Solves pages checked; the math assessment tools are Astor's own.
- NY-K.OA.6 (patterns) and NY-K.MD.4 (coins) are NYS-only standards. Illustrative Mathematics is aligned to the Common Core, so the coin and pattern work is Astor's addition.
- The Social Studies Framework asks why national holidays are celebrated. The kids pages give dates from the NYCPS calendar and one reason, for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (National Park Service). Reasons for other holidays were left out because they were not checked against a source.
- NYSED does not number the Health Education indicators, so they are cited as Health Std 1, 2 and 3.
- Astor's own choices: unit order, daily minutes, monthly targets, activities, games, household swaps, and interview tasks.
- This is a draft for review, not an official NYC Public Schools or NYSED document.
About the kids' side
Children see each unit as a colorful "world" with short read-aloud facts, words to know, games, a try-it-at-home idea, and the read-aloud books from the plan. Every fact told to children links to its source. The kids pages have no sound at all: Pip's mouth pictures show each letter sound, so say the sound with your child, and sing the beat lessons together. The standards for each subject are on the subject pages here.
